Each committee member is expected to be active and involved in all aspects of the search. In particular, each member is expected to:

It is not unusual for committee members and departmental administrative staff to be the only contact applicants have with the University, which gives those individuals a unique opportunity to enhance the reputation and image of U.Va.
While a search committee is evaluating an applicant, the applicant is also evaluating the committee, the department and/or unit represented, and, ultimately, the university. In fact, those evaluations by candidates can now be public. Web sites, such as Academic Search Wiki, provide faculty candidates an opportunity to describe their experiences at specific schools. Search committee and department members should keep this in mind throughout the entire search.
